Sophisticated Funke Plate and Gasket Profile: "Off-Set"- embossing for highest efficiency
All plate heat exchangers look very similar at first glance. But the difference and the secret of efficient heat transfer cannot be seen from the outside it is the wave pattern. Its performance depends on many factors, including size and number of plates. Altogether, these factors determine the size of the plate heat exchangers and the operating costs. A crucial factor e.g. is that plates with different plate corrugation angles (in relation to the flow direction) can be combined. Obtuse corrugation angles result in longer thermal paths (H) and higher heat transfer rates but also lead to higher pressure drops. Acute corrugation (L) angles are chosen if the pressure drop must be kept low.
The configuration of the plate pack is always calculated using state-of-the-art design software, whether symmetrical or asymmetrical, to give the most efficient and cost effective solution for the customer.
Welded cassettes (Series FPG)
In this design special media, such as ammonia in cooling applications, flows through welded plate pairs. On the water side between the cassettes, specially designed gaskets are used.
Double-wall plates (Series FPDW)
These plates provide maximum protection against the mixing of media used in the heat exchange process. Two simultaneously embossed plates are laser-welded at the port holes. If there is a leak, fluids can escape at the edges of the plate pair.
FUNKE plate heat exchangers offer more advantages by combining different plate corrugations- with the unique "Off-Set" profile even asymmetrical flow gaps can be formed. Therefore, the cross-sectional areas of the warm and the cold side of the PHE can approximately be one third larger or smaller

Brazed PHE:

In the field of Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers (PHE) our company can offer a large range of standard and special series for application in process plant as well as for low-cost water/water applications. The Brazed FUNKE plate heat exchangers consist of embossed stainless steel plates, fit into one another and vacuum brazed with copper or nickel to form a compact and pressureproof unit. During assembly every second plate is staggered by 180° creating two separate flow gaps. Heat-exchanging media (normally in counter-flow) are passing the gaps.

Embossing of plates and the inserted turbolators respectively (in case of TPL) create a highly turbulent flow which enables most effective heat-transfer even in case of low volumetric flow rates- and reduce the risk of fouling to a minimum.

TPL Series: GPL Series:
The powerful unit for top heat transfer rates in case of media with average viscosity and high viscosity.
The TPL unit has special turbulators placed between the flow of gaps and by diagonal media flow together with large diameter connections very high heat exchangers rates are reached.
Heat transfer plates with V-corrugation for universal application in case of media with low velocity. GPL series has thermally optimized plate corrugation which produces highly turbulent flow even in case of low mass flow. GPLS series with double plates as safety heat exchanger is also available.

Caution : on principle brazed plate heat exchangers are unsuited for: seawater, ammonia, demineralized water, silicone oil and high-chloride media (exception: NPL series)
